In a surprising turn of events, the role of Derek Spencer has undergone it’s FOURTH recast; this time it’s temporary!
Shawn Christian, who claimed the role last fall, has taken medical leave for an undisclosed amount of time. The role will be temporarily portrayed by actor Scott Reeves, who’s worked on Daytime dramas such as The Young and the Restless and General Hospital.
It is unknown when Christian will return to the series, but he is expected back by Spring. The role of Derek was previously portrayed by actors Trevor St. John and Todd Rotondi. Reeves will claim the role as of Ep302.

Could the original Jessica Smithson be returning to Liberty City? It’s possible!
It’s speculated that Natalie Hall, who vacated the role in late 2010 due to change in storyline, could reprise the role. Current actress Ashley Benson confirmed last month her decision to vacate the role, due to lack of a storyline.
No official confirmation has been confirmed. But if it’s true, would you want Hall back in the role? Benson to stay? The role to be recast?
Original cast member Daniel Cosgrove has opted to terminate his contract and leave the role of Derek Spencer.
“The lack of storyline concerning Jason definitely had something to do with his decision,” series creator Scott Andrews. “The character of Jason has been pretty low-key since the divorce from Jessica. And the character was quiet during the majority of the second season.”
Don’t expect Cosgrove to be vacant for long. Andrews confirmed, “I’m definitely interested in casting him for ‘Forbidden Desires’. Only time can tell.” Don’t expect the character to be quiet for long following Cosgrove’s exit. “The character has a big storyline coming up. Cosgrove’s exit merely is changing the type of storyline Derek will be given.”
Cosgrove last airs sometime this March; no word on who will replace Cosgrove.

It was announced in November that Daytime actress Christie Clark would premiere in the role of Chelsea sometime this month. However, we have received further confirmation that the actress’ debut onto the series has been pushed back to next year.
“There is too much to wrap up for the final episodes of this season,” Scott Andrews confirmed. “Introducing Chelsea makes more sense in the New Year. But Clark will still join the series.”
Andrews is currently wrapping up production of the second year of Liberty City, which will wrap New Years Eve. He is as well developing a sister series entitled Forbidden Desires, to launch 2012.
